The black poplar (lat. Populus nigra) is a medium- to large-sized deciduous tree that is native to Europe, southwest and central Asia, and northwest Africa. It is quite common in Greece and in various areas of East Macedonia and Thrace. The black poplar grows in low-lying areas of moist ground, whereas it is a wind- and drought-tolerant tree.
It blooms in March and April.
