Sounio 

Village of the region of Xanthi, οn the border with Rodopi. Most of the inhabitants are refugees from the village of Partheni or Parthenochori in Kessani as well as from Bursa. Its older name Sunetzikioi comes from the Turkish sunet, which means "circumcision".

The first Thracian Greeks settled in the village in 1922. That is why the church is dedicated to Agios Athanasios, patron saint of Parthenochori.
