Common toad

The common toad (lat. Bufo bufo), also known as the European toad is a type of frog that is widespread throughout most of Europe. It is the biggest frog species to be found in Greece. Its length can reach about 20 centimeters. It lives in most parts of Greece, such as the Peloponnese, the Ionian Islands, Evia, and Samothrace.

It feeds mainly on invertebrates. In case of danger, the common toad emits toxic substances, which keep many of its predators away. These substances, however, are not dangerous to humans.
