aequora, et iniecto conduntur gurgite montes,
iamque volans Rhenum Rhodanumque in nubila tollit.
Hunc postquam Boreae dirum evasere furorem,                                  
alternos maesti casus bellique marisque
et dubium rerum eventum sermone volutant.

Και πάντοτε σκληρός, τώρα ριπίζει την ακτή της θάλασσας και χτυπά τις ίδιες τις Άλπεις με τα φτερά του που βγάζουν στριγκό ήχο και, όταν ξεχύνεται στη γη πάνω από την παγωμένη Άρκτο, σχεδόν κανένας άνεμος δεν μπορεί να  του σταθεί εμπόδιο. Μετατρέπει τη θάλασσα σε ορμητικούς στρόβιλους, ενώ τα κομμένα στα δύο κύματα βρυχώνται και τα βουνά θάβονται κάτω από στίβες νερού. Και τώρα, πετώντας, σηκώνει τον Ρήνο και τον Ροδανό στα σύννεφα. Εκεί οι Ρούτουλοι, έχοντας ξεφύγει από την στυγνή οργή του Βορέα, μιλούσαν για τις επάλληλες συμφορές του θλιβερού πολέμου και της θάλασσας και για την ασταθή έκβαση των πραγμάτων.

Meantime the Rutulians had travelled far over the waters, and the hills of Hercules began to emerge from the sea, and to lift up from the range the cloud-capt cliffs of Monoecus. Thracian Boreas is the sole lord of these rocks, a savage domain; ever freezing, he now lashes the shore, and now beats the Alps themselves with his hissing wings; and, when he spreads over the land from the frozen Bear, no wind dares to rise against him. He churns the sea in rushing eddies, while the broken billows roar and the mountains are buried beneath water piled above them; and now in his career he raises the Rhine and the Rhone up to the clouds. Having escaped this awful fury of Boreas, the envoys spoke sadly one to another of the hazards of war succeeded by the hazards of the sea, and about the doubtful issue of events.
